"Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." --Leonardo da Vinci.

In Canada and the United States every pilot and air traffic controller requires a medical examination at prescribed intervals in order to validate and exercise the privileges of their license. Aviation medical exams may only be performed by Civil Aviation Medical Examiners (CAME) for Transport Canada (TC) and by Aviation Medical Examiners (AME) for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States. Physicians are trained and designated for this purpose. As a CAME, Senior AME and former Flight Surgeon in the Canadian Armed Forces, Dr. Mastrangelo has the necessary training, experience, knowledge and designations to perform these exams. Moreover, he has a passion for aviation and preventive medicine.

An aviation medical exam is a comprehensive assessment to determine whether a pilot or air traffic controller is medically fit to fly or control air traffic. It is required by law for maintaining aviation licenses.
Aviation medical exams must be performed by accredited professionals: Civil Aviation Medical Examiners (CAMEs) in Canada and Aviation Medical Examiners (AMEs) for the FAA in the United States.
You should bring 2 pieces of photo ID, any required assistive devices (like glasses or hearing aids), all medical reports related to any significant conditions, and your current aviation medical documentation.
For FAA medicals you must also bring a copy of the completed medxpress form with the confirmation number clearly visible. To access medxpress click here
The frequency of medical exams varies based on your age and the class of medical certificate you hold. Typically, exams are required annually, biannually, or every five years up to certain age limits.
The exam includes a physical assessment, vision and hearing tests, a urinalysis and a review of your medical history. It is designed to evaluate your overall health and ability to fly safely.
