Dr. Mastrangelo has undergone private pilot flight training. In addition, thanks to his military and civilian training, he has personally experienced many of the stressors endured by pilots. These include fatigue (due to work load, long hours, jet lag etc.), disorientation, ear block, air (motion) sickness (nausea, vomiting), hypoxia, hypobaric conditions, positive and negative G forces with resultant grey-out, black-out and G-LOC (G-induced Loss Of Consciousness). These experiences were obtained both on the ground in simulators, as well as during flights in multiple aircraft types including commercial aircraft, helicopters, light aircraft, gliders, aerobatic aircraft, C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, T-bird and Tutor jets, and high performance fighter jets such as CF-101, CF-104 and CF-5. This experience along with his love of aviation and preventive medicine, helps to make him knowledgeable in, and sympathetic to, what pilots endure on a daily basis.
Dr. Mastrangelo will make himself available to speak on topics of interest to pilot groups whenever possible.
